STATIC OR DYNAMIC=Concept Map

To differentiate between static and dynamic lies within the words. When I think of static I think of the grey fuzz on the television which shows no picture and is "stuck"===STATIC. The word DYNAMIC leads me to imagine dynamite which is explosive and immediate. I have completed a concept map on the collaboration, communication, and content of static and dynamic technologies as it relates to educational technology. The most dynamic of the technologies I discovered was "THE CLOUD", I had heard about it and was interested in researching how it would impact educational technology

Share where you believe you are on the “static-dynamic continuum.”
As I incorporate technology daily in my classroom, I am moving toward the dynamic continuum with distance education as my foundation.  I have been semi static-with having my students email me their assignments and reports as I grade/edit them and return via email.  We are also have a class website which is static; however, I plan to move toward blogging and social networking with my students next year.  There is much work to be done on my part to move toward exclusive dynamics but there is a need for more resources as it relates to my student body.

  1. Hi RaKinah,

I am glad you mentioned “the cloud.” In the K-12 setting I am always attentive to the publicity of student work and maintaining student confidentiality. To that end, I have been using Moodle to “control” student information, but that does keep many of their activities static. I think another characteristic to add to dynamic tools is the degree of control the learner has with the tool. I like the idea of having students set up their own blogs and capitalizing on the opportunity to teach online safety. I love the idea of having students do more with social networking for education, but how do you see getting around the filters that block many of these sites in public schools?

    Cheers,
    Margaret

  2. Margaret,
Filters are a big issue although skype is not blocked, at least not yet. The school I currently work in is going 100 percent virtual next year and the filters may possibly be unblocked. Thank you for your feedbsck.

  3. RaKinah,
First, Thank you for the guidance on posting for better viewing. I will try that in another assignment.
You concept map is very clear and easy to follow. It does not get jumbled up.
I like the different backgroud. What did you use to make this one?
    Thank you, Debi
