How has this element evolved? Global diversity among scholars as well as students of all ages has evolved immensly with the incorporation of the internet an mass media. 20 years ago when I was in elementary school, we were required to write a pen pal in a different country to learn about their culture. We also used encyclopedias and periodicals to research the country and create a presenation that highlighted the native traditions of the area. This process took an entire semester of writing and researching to create a 5 minute presentation that creates cultural awareness and global diversity.
What online tools are available today to facilitate these interactions among learners? In contrast, the availability of global diversity is virtually instantaneous. Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, and LinkED are tools that allow for social networking as well as educational collaborations. These tools create a chance for students to develop relationships which will foster globally diverse ideas in their research. This also allows for the viewpoint of other cultures to be recognized.
I agree global diversity is one of the most positive elements that can come from the digital generation. The quest for information and communication leads one in many different directions. Hopefully, it will bring people together.
ReplyDeleteYes! The digital generation is an ever reaching one, because even baby boomers are being affected and some are turning into techies and facebookers, texters, and iPad users. My dad is a perfect example he facebooks and texts daily. I guess when you are retired, you have time to do all the fun "teeny bopper" stuff.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at how the development of new technologies has affected global diversity. I remember when messenging programs like Powwow and Yahoo messenger began to thrive and the excitement of being able to talk to someone in another country. All things that many of the younger generations now take for granted.
